2020 Olympic Housing | Alondra Park, CA
The site exists as a harsh schism between the more natural context on the west, and the built context on the east. The goal of the athlete housing project is to use the existing parking deck as a tool to stitch the context together and create a more cohesive and fluid movement across the site.
By reconfiguring two main axes on the site, the parking deck is split into three zones. The north and south zones are anchored into the west context, while the middle zone is anchored into the east context. Program is located based on contextual influences as well as the indexed parking and structural organization of the deck, creating a lateral bias. Through the separation of the deck into three zones, porosity is maximized, allowing for direct access across the site.
